The by-election in Ramsey's South Ward turned out to be an extremely tight affair, with the man who claimed the seat on the board of the local commissioners winning by the unusually narrow margin of nine votes.
Self-employed IT consultant Steven Bevan polled 275 votes, with retailer Stephen Rand narrowly missing out, on 266.
The turnout for the election yesterday (Thursday) was 20 per cent.
It was Mr Bevan's second attempt to gain a seat on the board, and his narrow victory was all the sweeter as he missed out by eleven votes, when he stood in the North Ward in the 2008 local authority general election.
He replaces Leonard Singer, who recently returned to the House of Keys, and will serve a short term, until voters all over the Island again go to the local authority polls, in April next year.
Mr Bevan is due to appear live on this morning's Mandate, at about quarter to eight.
