THE Isle of Man branch of the Institute of Directors is hosting two courses and a seminar this month.
Tomorrow (Thursday, November 10) there will be a one day course on business structures, the law and corporate governance as they apply in the Isle of Man.
On November 22 there will be a breakfast seminar when the guest speaker will be Dr Roger Barker, head of corporate governance for the Institute of Directors.
Dr Barker was also the UK representative on a working party which developed European corporate governance principles for unlisted companies which will be his topic for the breakfast.
On November 24 there will be a one day course on the director's role in managing reputation.
The tutor is Seamus Gillen who is a senior adviser at Reputation Institute, an academic and advisory body dealing with issues of reputation management.
Prior to this role he was the company secretary and director of regulation at Anglian Water plc and head of public policy and regulation at 02 plc.
He has worked previously in Whitehall as a senior civil servant - and as a private secretary to two cabinet ministers - which means he will be looking at issues from both the public and private sector perspectives.
The course aims to cover what is necessary to build a reputation, how to look after it, how to protect against reputational risk and what to do when a crisis hits.
