LITTLE Shop of Horrors will be staged at Ballakermeen High School, Douglas, for a four night run from Wednesday (November 9).
The popular show tells the story of Seymour, a down-trodden assistant in a flower shop on Skid Row who becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers a strange and interesting plant with an appetite for fresh blood.
Soon 'Audrey II' grows into a bullying monster who demands more food, sings in R&B style, and offers Seymour fame and success – especially with his glamorous colleague in the shop.
Little Shop of Horrors was one of the longest-running off-Broadway shows of all time and a film version achieved even greater popularity.
A Ballakermeen High School spokesman said the production features one of the strongest casts the school has ever assembled including, for the first time, students from the new performing arts course.
The director is David Dawson, a former student at Ballakermeen, who studied Drama and Performing Arts at the University of Chester and who now coordinates the Studio Theatre for the school and the Isle of Man Arts Council.
David has enjoyed working with the young people whom he describes as 'hugely talented,' passing on his expertise and helping to develop their skills.
'This show is all about fun,' said David. 'It's fun for the actors and provides them with a challenge. Above all, it's fun for the audience. The auditorium has been full for some rehearsals and we've had a fantastic reception.'
