The towns and villages to be visited by the Olympic Torch when it travels around the Isle of Man ahead of the London 2012 games have been confirmed.  

There is an open invitation to Island residents and TT visitors to witness the flame making its journey, on June 2, 2012. 

It is hoped most of the route will be accessible to the many people who will want to be part of the celebrations and applaud the achievements of the torchbearers.

They have been chosen following nominations of worthy individuals by the Manx public.

It has been confirmed Douglas, Laxey, Onchan, Ballasalla and Castletown will be among the 1000-plus British villages, towns and cities the torchbearers are set to visit.

The Department of Community, Culture and Leisure says the Manx Electric Railway will certainly be involved.

Additionally, with it being TT, the torch will be carried on a sidecar along a short stretch of the course before racing starts.

Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Lord Coe says he wants to encourage people across the Isle of Man to start planning how they can be part of the 'once in a lifetime opportunity'.

Community, Culture and Leisure Minister Tim Crookall is appearing live on Mandate on Manx Radio at 8.10am today (Monday) to talk about the torch's visit.
