Champs back on top

by isleofman.com 6th November 2011

St George’s showed exactly why they’re champions as they moved to a familiar place on Saturday – top of the Canada Life Premier League.

The Geordies thrashed Peel 5-1 on their own turf to leapfrog Laxey at the summit.

A hat-trick from Ciaran McNulty and one each from Liam Cowin and Johnny Myers ensured the champions overcame the westerners’ challenge.

Daniel Bell was on target for Peel.

Old Boys kept up the pressure but had to overturn a half-time deficit to see off newly promoted Ramsey Youth Centre.

Sean Kelly had given the northerners an interval lead before Chris Clinton and Dave Quirk ensured there was no shock at Blackberry Lane.

St Mary’s also kept up the pressure and there was no doubting the star of the show.

The golden boot of Steven Priestnal hit five as the Saints triumphed 6-1 at bottom club Ayre.

Jamie Murphy grabbed the other for the Saints.

A hat-trick from Mike Fernandes clinched a return to form for Ramsey in some style.

They defeated Castletown 6-1 at Ballacloan in a second half super show.

Chris Halsall, Jamie Arneill and Matty Montgomery netted the others.

Alex Crawley found the net for Town from the penalty spot.

Corinthians and St John’s shared four goals at Ballafletcher.

John Wrigley put St John’s ahead before Jamie Stoy and Louis Thornton, from the penalty spot, gave Corinthians a half-time lead.

Nicky Sloan levelled matters after the break.

A second half hat-trick from Josh Kelly and doubles from Steven Riding and Aaron Hawley, plus one from Ciaran Brown, fired Rushen to an 8-1 victory over Gymns.

The Tromode consolation came from Nick Bowden.

The match marred by a neck injury to Gymns’ goalkeeper Chris Kelly.
