Tynwald to approve members of statutory boards

by isleofman.com 4th November 2011

TUESDAY’S sitting of Tynwald will be largely spent deciding which politicians will serve in a wide range of positions within the numerous committees which form the Manx government.

Treasury Minister Eddie Teare has also compiled a list of members for senior roles in the government’s statutory boards for which he will seek the approval of Tynwald.

The appointments proposed are:- Eddie Lowey MLC, chairman of the MEA, John Houghton MHK vice chairman; Geoff Corkish MHK, chairman of the Isle of Man Post Office, Richard Ronan MHK vice chairman; Graham Cregeen MHK, chairman of the Water and Sewerage Authority, Bill Henderson MHK vice chairman; David Quirk MHK, chairman of the Office of Fair Trading, David Callister MLC vice chairman.

The committees include a number of policy review bodies to serve for the next five years, such as public accounts, economic policy and social affairs policy.

Perhaps the most important election to be decided, though, is that of the choice of Deputy President of Tynwald, who must be either a member of the House of Keys of a member of the Legislative Council.

The previous deputy President was Steve Rodan, Speaker of the House of Keys, and he emerges as the clear favourite to take up the role again from Tuesday.

Tuesday’s sitting of Tynwald will also ratify the various departmental appointments announced this week by Chief Minister Allan Bell.
