Tilleard hints at further Tesco expansion

by isleofman.com 3rd November 2011

The businessman who helped persuade Tesco to come to Castletown believes the company could be planning further outlets elsewhere in the Isle of Man.

A new express store is due to open in Callow's Yard in the town in around three month's time, creating 20 jobs.

The news is being welcomed by some locals, but others are concerned it will have a damaging impact on the viability of other shops in the centre of the town.

Callow's Yard owner Roy Tilleard says competition is no bad thing, and believes Tesco is planning further expansion on the Island (listen to audio file below):

Tesco's corporate affairs manager Matthew Maggee says he hopes the Castletown express store will help establish the town as one of the Island's best shopping areas.

Last year the company failed in its bid to expand its Douglas store.
