Indian restaurant spices up learning for school pupils

by isleofman.com 2nd November 2011

A LOCAL Indian restaurant has helped children from Willaston School learn more about Indian cooking and culture.

Pupils in years five and six were invited for an afternoon at the Millennium Saagar in Douglas to aid their learning of the country.

Hamid Chowdhury, the director of the restaurant, told the children about the different types of cuisine that can be found throughout India before letting them sample several dishes.

A question and answer session was also held giving the children an opportunity to ask how the dishes were made and about the restaurant itself.

Hamid said: "I was delighted to invite the pupils to come and sample authentic traditional Indian cuisine and learn about which food is popular in India. It has been a wonderful experience."

Amy Whelan, a year five pupil from the school, said: "We had a great afternoon and the food was delicious."

The staff and children from Willaston School have thanked Hamid, his father and the staff at the Millennium Saagar for giving them "a memorable insight into Indian cuisine".
