Fishing industry under threat

by isleofman.com 1st November 2011

New fishing regulations could ultimately cost the Manx industry ?1.2 million.

With the new scallop season starting today (Tuesday), much of the Manx fleet is laid up because of a new 15-metre boat limit for scallop fishing.

It even means some local boats can’t fish in Manx territorial waters.

Bill Caley of Isle of Man Seafoods says while the Manx government is doing what it can to overturn the UK ruling, 33 men on 10 boats are unable to earn money unless a resolution is found.
