Knowles will be 'torn apart' by events in London

by isleofman.com 1st November 2011

Manx Radio's religious affairs correspondent Judith Ley believes the outgoing Dean of St Paul's Cathedral still has much to offer the Anglican Church.

The Right Reverend Graeme Knowles, who was the Isle of Man's bishop for four years until 2007, resigned yesterday (Tuesday), saying mounting criticism of the cathedral's handling of the anti-capitalist protest camp outside the famous building had made his position untenable.

Ms Ley describes him as 'a deeply spiritual man' and says the events unfolding in London will be 'tearing him apart'.

She hopes that once the sadness over his departure has eased, he will continue to make a valuable contribution to the Anglican Church, in some other capacity:

The anti-capitalist protesters camped outside St Paul's will be served notice later today, giving them 48 hours to move.

The City of London Corporation is threatening to take legal action if they refuse.
