Miners move to summit

Laxey moved to the top of the Canada Life Premier League on Saturday after overcoming a battling Corinthians.

Goals from Anthony Leach, Ashley Webster and Darren Hudgeon fired the Miners to a 3-2 victory.

Lewis Thornton and Blane Slattery kept the home side in the hunt at Ballafletcher but Laxey deserved their victory.

Reigning champions St George’s moved up to second after crushing bottom club Gymns 8-1.

Ciaran McNulty was the main man with four against his former club.

James McStay (two), Frank Jones and Johnny Myers netted the others for the Geordies.

St John’s fought back from 3-1 down at half-time to draw at Rushen in a six goal thriller.

An Aaron Hawley penalty and goals from Josh Kelly and Michael Baker put the home side into an interval lead.

But Andy Glover, Callum Taggart and Stephen Glover earned a good point for St John’s.

Hat-tricks from talented youngster Louie Palmer and experienced midfielder Chris Cain fired Peel to an 11-1 win at bottom club Ayre.

Ryan Burns (two), Lee Gale (two) and Matty Woods scored the others for the westerners with Johnny Kelly notching the consolation for Ayre.
