Calls to rename development site

by isleofman.com 28th October 2011

Local campaigners are calling on a Manx developer to name a huge project in Flintshire after a local industrialist.

Praxis Holdings is creating a vast industrial, commercial and housing development over 247 acres at RAF Sealand and is marketing the site under the title 'The Airfield'.

However, a group of retired steelworkers wants the name to recognise John Summers, the founder of Shotton Steel, which employed 13,000 workers and transformed the local area.

Sealand councillor Chris Jones has raised the issue with Praxis, suggesting the site be renamed Summers Bridge.

The company says its name was chosen only for the initial marketing campaign and could be changed in future.
