'Island will always need tourism', says Toohey

A former tourism chief is welcoming a new think-tank which, it's hoped, will help revitalise the industry in the Isle of Man.

Terry Toohey says there is a constant need to look at different ways of promoting the Island as a destination, and believes it's right those involved should be given a bigger say.

His comments come as the private and public sectors join together to form a steering group which will influence future policy.

There will be smaller discussion forums for specific areas, such as accommodation, events and travel, which will report back to the main body.

Despite the decline in recent decades, Mr Toohey says the Isle of Man will always need tourism:
