Award winning Radio 4 show Mark Steel's In Town coming to town on Thursday

by isleofman.com 25th October 2011

COMEDIAN, writer and presenter Mark Steel will bring his award winning BBC Radio 4 show to The Gaiety on Thursday.

Mark Steel's In Town is a one-man show which takes a sharp but affectionate look at small British towns, their history, people and the idiosyncrasies which shape their character.

Mark visits and researches each location featured before returning to do a specially tailored show about the area which is recorded live in front of a local audience.

Douglas will be the subject of the Thursday evening show and as part of his groundwork Mark has already explored Douglas Head, North Quay, Strand Street and the Manx Museum. He also sampled the local ales in the Rover's Return and The Albert Hotel.

Mark Steel's In Town has been described as "upbeat, enjoyable stand up" and has claimed awards at the Sony Radio Academy Awards and the Writers' Guild of Great Britain.

The show is in its third series and Douglas will share a tour programme with, amongst others, Holyhead, Berwick-upon-Tweed and Bungay in Suffolk.

The Isle of Man tour date also coincides with the publication of a new book based on the shows which is also called Mark Steel's In Town.

Tickets for Mark Steel's In Town are available free by clicking here. The show will take place at The Gaiety Theatre in Douglas on Thursday and will start at 7.15pm.
