HEALTH and safety professionals in the Isle of Man have the chance to take part in a national diploma course in occupational safety and health.
The Department of Economic Development has announced it will run a National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) training course in January.
NEBOSH is the leading awarding body in its field in the United Kingdom and this qualification is seen as a gold standard for health and safety professionals.
The aim of the diploma is to provide the knowledge and understanding needed to effectively carry out the duties of an occupational health and safety practitioner.
Andy Stewart, training services manager for the Employment and Skills Group, said: "The Employment and Skills Group supports a wide range of vocational training through the facilitation of bespoke courses and the provision of financial assistance.
"This ensures that high quality industry recognised training is available locally, with full tutor support, and is accessible by employers who would otherwise find travelling to the UK or bringing training providers to the Island unviable."
Dudley Butt MLC, the political member for the Employment and Skills Group, said: "The Department of Economic Development continues to play an important role in training and the NEBOSH diploma will undoubtedly benefit organisations who are seeking to implement good safety management in their workplace."
The NEBOSH diploma course, which is being run by the Employment and Skills Group, will start on January 6. Delegates will attend the course for one day per week over 36 weeks before taking exams in four modules. Places cost £1,800 plus VAT.
Due to the length of the course it is anticipated that the diploma will only be held once every two to three years. Anyone interested in taking place is asked to contact Emma Cain from the Employment and Skills Group on 01624 687188 or e-mail emma.cain@gov.im.
