MHK suggests work permit change

by isleofman.com 25th October 2011

One of the newly elected members of the House of Keys wants to know if work permits could be issued by sector, rather than for specific employers.

Liberal Vannin member Kate Beecroft says the current arrangement means employees can't change jobs within a particular industry, without making a new application.

She claims the restriction puts staff in a position where they could be exploited by unscrupulous employers (listen to audio file below):

Mrs Beecroft has a question on the subject for the sitting of the House of Keys today (Tuesday).

She will also ask if the Treasury would consider bringing in 'National Insurance holidays' for a limited period, for companies employing school leavers.
