'Government planning should look further ahead'

by isleofman.com 25th October 2011

A newly elected member of the House of Keys is urging the new administration to work on a strategy to meet the long-term needs of the Isle of Man and its population.

Michael MHK Alf Cannan says issues such as the ageing population, planning, and the cost and provision of housing all need to be taken into account, when creating a clear vision for the future.

He says such thinking would give the business community, builders and all commercial enterprise a better idea of where the Island was heading.

Mr Cannan says successive governments have done a good job managing the 'here and now', but a more far-sighted approach is now needed (listen to audio file below):

Mr Cannan has questions on the subject for answer by Chief Minister Allan Bell at the sitting of the House of Keys today (Tuesday).
