MLC met Gaddafi in 1960s

A member of Tynwald has been remembering the time he met former Libyan dictator Colonel Muammar Ghaddafi.

Yesterday (Thursday) the former Libyan dictator was killed by National Transitional Council forces during fighting in his stronghold of Sirte.

Alex Downie MLC says he met Colonel Ghaddafi when he worked as a ship's engineer on board a vessel which visited the country regularly.

But he says that was back in the 1960s, when Ghaddafi was seen by the West as a bastion against communist influence:
