TWO suspect packages believed to be from Algeria have been sent to two Douglas finance companies.
Police have revealed that they intercepted the packages at the Isle of Man Post Office on Friday.
Specialist officers recovered the packages under controlled conditions accompanied by the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service.
A police spokesperson said: "The packages have been found to be very similar to those received by some local financial institutions in 2009.
"Both packages appear to originate from Algeria and contain correspondence together with an, as yet, unidentified substance.
"Owing to the professional and prompt actions by the Isle of Man Post Office staff the incident was rapidly contained and there was no risk to the public."
Police say that no-one that has come into contact with the packages has shown any ill effects.
They have released two photographs (published above) of the intercepted packages and have asked anyone who receives a similar package to contact them.
The spokesperson explained: "Should anyone receive a similar package through the post they are advised not to open it or handle the package unnecessarily. The package should be isolated, ideally in an airtight container, and the police contacted as soon as possible.
"Recipients should employ standard principles of hygiene and wash their hands and any other exposed skin thoroughly after any physical contact with such items."
A police investigation into the intercepted packages is underway. An investigation into the parcels received in 2009 proved "inconclusive".
