ENTHUSIASM for the arts and theatre has defied the economic downturn with a number of new sponsors teaming up to support Douglas Choral Union’s production of ‘Miss Saigon’.
The organisation (DCU) announced today that it has secured support from a number of the Island’s biggest corporate names for the production which will hit the Gaiety stage between February 6 and 18 next year.
Dougherty Quinn, one of the Island’s leading law firms, will once again be principal sponsor. DCU has also secured a new ‘gold sponsor’ with SMP Partners who have also supported other Gaiety Theatre productions in the past.
Giles Hill, director of Dougherty Quinn, said, “DQ’s dedication and commitment to the DCU reflects the importance of the arts in the Isle of Man’s culture, its importance to the current and emerging generations, and its role at the heart of communities throughout the Island.”
In addition the DCU has again received sponsorship from www.isleofman.com, Isle of Man Post Office, Mannin Media, Wi-Manx, Coutts Bank and Clare Payne Photography, all of which bring much valued support. The DCU would also like to give a “special mention” to their longest serving sponsor, Paradise and Gell, who will be celebrating 40 years of business in 2012.
Manx Radio is again an associate sponsor and will provide a series of interviews with the cast and crew, and will be holding competitions for the chance to win free tickets. More news and features regarding Miss Saigon will appear on www.isleofman.com keeping tabs on everything DCU related.
DCU Chairman Alex Toohey said, “As the costs of our productions are never cheap, we are most grateful to all of our sponsors as without their support and generosity we would find it increasingly difficult to produce a show to the standard expected by the Manx public.
“The arts always have an important role to play in the local community and with the help of our sponsors we can not only offer a great night out, but also uncover and nurture some fantastic talent along the way.
“We are thrilled to have such fantastic support and we are proud that these leading companies believe in what we do. Now it’s over to us to put on another spectacular show!”
