Southern Area Plan inquiry adjourned

by isleofman.com 13th October 2011

Proceedings at the Public Inquiry in to the Southern Area Plan have been adjourned to next month.

The decision was taken by the independent planning inspector yesterday afternoon (Wed).

He said that for two specific sites he wanted the Department of Infrastructure to submit additional written evidence over and above what had been originally submitted. This followed legal representations yesterday morning from one of the objectors to the Plan.

Minister for Infrastructure, Phil Gawne, says the adjournment is unfortunate, but the Inspector must hold the Inquiry in "an open and transparent way which ensures fairness to all participants."

He adds that whilst he understands that planning is sometimes seen as taking too long, in this instance the slight delay will ensure that correct procedures are followed so that a robust and up to date Area Plan for the South will be in place.

The inquiry will continue on the 21st of November.
