Council appeals for topsoil

by isleofman.com 13th October 2011

DOUGLAS Council is appealing for help as it needs 2,000 tonnes of topsoil for allotments at Johnny Watterson's Lane.

It is hoping developers or contractors will come forward with any spare topsoil they may have.

Leisure services committee chairman councillor Stephen Pitts said: "In creating the new lawn cemetery adjacent to the allotment site all available topsoil was used.

"Now, with the first phase of allotments fully tenanted and a waiting list of more than 100 applicants for phase two we need in the region of 2,000 tonnes of topsoil.

"We are therefore hoping developers or contractors will come forward and donate any surplus topsoil they may have in order that we can complete the project and allocate the remaining 26 plots."

Offers of topsoil should be directed to the assistant chief executive, Douglas Town Hall, Ridgeway Street, Douglas, IM99 1AD.
