Island firm loses Ministry of Sound planning battle

by isleofman.com 12th October 2011

A Douglas-based property developer has lost its battle to build apartments directly opposite a world famous London nightclub.

Oakmayne Properties planned to construct a 41-story block of flats in Southwark - the home of the Ministry of Sound.

The superclub's owners feared such a development could lead to noise complaints and them losing their licence.

Thousands signed petitions opposing the plans.

Southwark council's planning committee last night voted against the proposal five - nil, with one abstention.

It's not yet clear if Oakmayne will appeal the decision.
