THE Island's first Superstars competition will be held at the NSC in Douglas next Sunday (October 16).
Based on the popular 1970s televised sports competition also called Superstars, the Commonwealth Games Association will be bringing together more than 20 of the Isle of Man's top athletes to go head-to-head to compete in up to seven events.
They include a 100m sprint, 800m distance race, football dribbling/control skills, 100m swim, cycling time trial, gym tests, strength and agility challenge and badminton/racket skills.
To intensify the competition athletes opt out of their strongest sport from one of the following four: swimming, cycling, football or badminton.
The individual with the most points at the end of the competition will be crowned the Isle of Man Superstar at a prize presentation at the NSC.
The event is being sponsored by Microgaming.
John Knight, vice president of the Commonwealth Games Association Isle of Man, said: "Many of us will be able to recall the original TV series Superstars, as we watched in awe as sporting legends fought to become the ultimate superstar.
"Thanks to the help of companies like Microgaming the Commonwealth Games Association has recreated this on our own doorstep and spectators will be able to watch the Isle of Man's very own sporting legends compete.
"Competitors are required to raise a minimum amount of £250 sponsorship, with all funds going towards the Commonwealth Games Association (Isle of Man)."
Roger Raatgever, CEO of Microgaming, said: "We are very passionate about sport at Microgaming and delighted to be part of an event which tests athletes in a range of disciplines to find the ultimate sports superstar.
"This is the first event of its kind on the Island and we can't wait to be a part of it!"
The event will take place from 11am to 5pm and spectators are encouraged to watch the athletes battle it out and show their support for the Commonwealth Games Association.
The event will take place irrespective of weather conditions.
