Attack accused remanded in custody

A 30 year-old man has been remanded in custody until Tuesday after an incident which has left a Castletown man with serious head injuries in a UK hospital.

Matthew Smith-Williams of Malew Street has been charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm with intent after an offence in the centre of Castletown on Wednesday evening.

He appeared in court this morning (Saturday) when an application for bail was rejected by the High Bailiff.

He will now appear in court again on Tuesday (Oct 11) before the Deputy High Bailiff.

Robert Lee Quinney, 42, also of Malew Street, remains in a serious condition. He was initially treated at Noble’s Hospital before being transferred to Walton hospital.
