Castletown cordoned off following serious incident

by isleofman.com 6th October 2011

PARTS of Castletown are still cordoned off this morning following a serious incident in the town.

Bank Street and Malew Street are closed to the public after an altercation between two men at around 6.15pm yesterday evening (Wednesday).

A 42 year old man suffered serious head injuries in the incident and is being treated in Noble's Hospital. A 35 year old man has been detained at Police Headquarters.

The whole of Bank Street is closed and Malew Street is closed between the Old Church at number 32 to 24 and Market Square.

This is to allow forensic officers to further examine the area in daylight.

Police have said they are not looking for any other suspects at this time but would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident.

They are particularly keen to speak to a white man, believed to be in his 40s or 50s, who had short dark hair and was wearing a navy blue fleece. It is believed that this man was present at the scene of the incident which took place in Malew Street with its junction of Bank Street.

Detective Inspector Iain MacMillan said: "Police apologise to the community for any inconvenience such closures may bring and ask for patience as they work to complete their enquiries and re-open the roads."

Anyone with information is asked to contact CID Headquarters on 01624 631301.
