Poll topper has clear message from voters

by isleofman.com 30th September 2011

An MHK who has won two House of Keys elections in the last two years says Thursday night's victory reinforces his mandate from the people.

Chris Robertshaw first won his East Douglas seat in a May 2010 by-election, triggered by the elevation of Phil Braidwood to the Legislative Council.

On Thursday, he topped the poll again with 915 votes, ahead of Brenda Cannell (757) who also held onto her seat.

Mr Robertshaw told Manx Radio he had a clear message from the people of the constituency (listen to audio file below):

The 40.7 per cent turnout of voters in East Douglas was the lowest of the 2011 general election.
