School bus hits bridge

A DOUBLE decker bus carrying school pupils was damaged after it hit the bridge at Church Hill, Laxey, this morning (Friday).

 

The Bus Vannin vehicle was on route 44 - Laxey to Douglas high schools - when it hit the bridge just before 8am.

 

While the bus is damaged no glass was broken and no injuries to pupils have been reported.

 

The passengers were put on the next service 3 to Douglas by the driver who was also uninjured.

 

Director of public transport Ian Longworth said: "We regret this incident occurred and are satisfied it seems not to have resulted in any injuries to staff or passengers.

 

"Police attended the scene and we will of course co-operate fully with any police investigation.

 

"We will also be undertaking our own internal investigation."
