More reactions from newly elected MHKs

REACTIONS from the newly elected MHKs are continuing to come as the results of this year's General Election are revealed.

 

In the Douglas South constituency Labour Party candidate David Cretney retained his seat with 1749 votes.

 

He is joined in the constituency by Liberal Vannin Party candidate Kate Beecroft who came second in the vote.

 

Speaking after the result was announced David Cretney said: "I look forward with relish to doing my very best for South Douglas and the Isle of Man. I can never be more grateful and I thank you all indeed."

 

Kate Beecroft added: "I'm still quite shocked by it all. I promise I'll try not to let you down, I will do my very best. I'm just delighted. I'm absolutely made up and thank you to everyone."

 

Bill Malarkey, who was standing for re-election, lost his seat.

 

In Douglas West John Shimmin and Geoff Corkish retained their seats.

 

John Shimmin said he was "absolutly delighted" with the result after gaining 1316 votes. Geoff Corkish said he would continue to work as hard as he possibly could for the constituency after gaining 1117 votes.
