Manx Auto Sport working to stage alternative rally event

by isleofman.com 29th September 2011

MANX Auto Sport has confirmed it is working to organise a replacement event following the cancellation of Rally Isle of Man.

The rally, which was due to take place between October 27 and 29, was cancelled last week in what the organisers called a "desperately disappointing decision".

However Manx Auto Sport Ltd has said it is working closely with the Department's of Infrastructure and Economic Development to stage an alternative event.

Mark Ellison, the chairman of Manx Auto Sport Ltd, explained: "Since the announcement of the cancellation of Rally Isle of Man (RIOM) Manx Auto Sport has received numerous requests from competitors and officials from both on and off the Island to see if it would be possible to stage an alternative event on the same dates that RIOM was scheduled to take place.

"We are pleased to announce that we have secured the full support of the MSA, Department of Infrastructure and Department of Economic Development to proceed with the Manx Auto Sport Stages Rally.

"We have also received the full support of our rallying partners the Manx Motor Sport Marshals Association."

The organisers have said further details will be made available in due course and have asked for the full support of competitors and rally enthusiasts to help "progress this event to a positive conclusion".
