Countdown to the General Election

by isleofman.com 27th September 2011

THE Isle of Man will go to the polls on Thursday for the 2011 General Election.

64 candidates are standing for election in the 15 constituencies that make up the Island.

Of the 64 candidates 24 are standing for re-election on Thursday.

Constituents who live in Castletown and Michael are the only people guaranteed to get new political representation as both Tony Brown and David Cannan have retired from politics.

A General Election takes place in the Isle of Man every five years following the dissolving of the House of Keys. MHKs are directly elected by the people of the Isle of Man.

You can only vote if you are included on the electoral register. If you are on the register you should have received a poll card by now which contains details of where and when you can vote on Thursday. If you are not on the electoral register you will not be able to vote.

isleofman.com has previewed all of the election candidates hoping for your vote on Thursday. To see why they are standing and what they are standing for visit our election newsroom by clicking here.
