'Hate campaign' targets election candidate

A candidate in next week's general election says he intends to 'rise above' what he is describing as a campaign to 'undermine' him.

Postcards have been sent to certain homes in Onchan urging voters not to support commissioner Brian Stowell as he seeks election to the House of Keys.

Mr Stowell is one of six candidates in the three-seat constituency, the others being Adrian Earnshaw, Zac Hall (Liberal Vannin), Peter Karran (Liberal Vannin), June Kelly and David Quirk.

The cards direct voters to a website, believed to have been set up by a group of disgruntled squash players, unhappy at the loss of facilities for the sport in Onchan Park.
