General Election - Glenfaba: Meet the candidates

GLENFABA is the smallest constituency in the Island, with 1733 constituents and one seat.

 

The constituency is made up of the parishes of German and Patrick.

  

Three candidates are standing for election in Glenfaba. They are David Anderson, Geoffrey Boot and Matthew Wadsworth.

 

Here is a closer look at the candidates:

 


David Anderson – Sitting Member

 

David Anderson is the sitting member in Glenfaba and will stand for re-election as an independent candidate.

 

He was elected in 2001 and during his political career has been the Minister for the Department's of Transport and currently the Department of Health.

 

Speaking about standing for election he said: "There will be difficult decisions to make and my experience will be a valuable asset in that process."

 

On a national level his priorities include pensions, development of the economy, employment and health. At constituency level his priorities include traffic management, the first time buyers scheme and traffic management.

 

 

Geoffrey Boot – Challenger

 

Geoffrey Boot, a businessman and aviation enthusiast, is standing for election in Glenfaba as an independent candidate.

 

He stood unsuccessfully in 2006 losing out to David Anderson.

 

Speaking about standing for election Geoffrey said: "What I've seen happen in the last five years angered me and made me more determined than ever to represent Glenfaba."

 

On a national level his priorities include the economy, Freedom of Information, farming, and health and safety. At constituency level his priorities include affordable housing, mobile library services and the condition of the roads.

 


Matthew Wadsworth – Challenger

 

Commercial analyst Matthew Wadsworth is standing for election in Glenfaba as an independent candidate.
 
Speaking about standing for election he said: "We are facing an unprecedented time of challenge as a nation admist a global climate uncertainty. We need to have a House of Keys that has the business skills, integrity and wisdom to deal with the issues we face."

 

On a national level his priorities include the relationship with the UK Government, Freedom of Information Act and scrutiny over public expenditure. At constituency level his priorities include preserving the identity of villages and communities, accountability and road development.

 

 

 

The Isle of Man will go to the polls on Thursday, September 29. 64 candidates are standing in the House of Keys election with 24 seats spread over the 15 constituencies. isleofman.com will bring you the election results as they happen on Thursday.
