DOUGLAS West is one of four Douglas constituencies and has 3440 constituents with two seats.
The area is largely residential and includes Ballabrooie, Port E Chee, the Bray Hill area and Tromode Park.
Four candidates are standing for election in Douglas West. They are Geoff Corkish, John Shimmin, John Skinner and Chris Thomas.
Here is a closer look at the candidates:
Geoff Corkish – Sitting Member
Geoff Corkish is a sitting member of Douglas West and will stand for re-election as an independent candidate.
He was elected in 2006 and is currently a Political Member for the Department of Economic Development and vice chairman of the Isle of Man Post Office.
During his political career he has also served on the Department's of Trade and Industry, Transport and Tourism and Leisure.
Speaking about standing for re-election Geoff said: "I entered politics to support and aid good government in this Island, not to carp and criticise, but to improve the quality of life of its people and their aspirations."
On a national level his priorities include a better relationship with the UK Government, the customs and excise relationship and internal government scrutiny. At constituency level priorities include parking, playground and nursery facilities for children and cost of nursing home care.
John Shimmin – Sitting Member
John Shimmin is a sitting member of Douglas West and will stand for re-election as an independent candidate.
He was elected in 2006 and is currently the Minister of the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture.
During his political career he has also served as the Minister for the Department's of Home Affairs, Transport and Local Government and the Environment.
Speaking about standing for re-election John said: "The challenges ahead are weightier than ever but are equalled in my vision of working to ensure that our Island, spirit and economy remain intact."
On a national level his priorities include the economy and employment, internal relationships and confidence. At constituency level his priorities include parking, road safety and the condition of roads and pavements.
John Skinner – Challenger
Retired fire officer John Skinner is standing for election in Douglas West as an independent candidate.
He served with the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service for 30 years and has spent the last nine years as a member of the Island's Planning Committee.
John has lived in the Douglas West constituency for his whole life and said: "I have learnt through meeting and talking to others on a daily basis that what they would like to see is a representative who is accountable, visible and accessible."
On a national level his priorities include a more open government, the economy, education and health. At constituency level his priorities include housing and improved roads.
Chris Thomas – Challenger
Chris Thomas is standing for election in Douglas West as a Liberal Vannin Party candidate.
He is a financial analyst and is the economics and business spokesperson for the Liberal Vannin Party.
Speaking about standing for election Chris said: "Liberal Vannin offers an alternative, common sense approach - most often supporting government but vigorously opposing it when proposals fail to provide solutions this nation and its peoples need."
On a national level his priorities include sustaining economic growth, reduction of government waste, immigration and health care. At constituency level his priorities include access to the area in race week, leisure facilities and lighting.
