CASTLETOWN is one of two constituencies that is guaranteed to get a new MHK following Tony Brown's retirement from politics.
The constituency has 2022 constituents and one seat.
Six candidates are standing for election in Castletown. They are Colin Leather, Jason Moorhouse, Mahendra Patel David Pownall, Carol Quine and Richard Ronan.
Here is a closer look at the candidates:
Colin Leather – Challenger
Colin Leather is standing as an independent candidate for Castletown.
He has served on the Castletown Town Commissioners since 1980 and has been the chairman on five occasions with the last time being 2010.
Colin says he believes his time with the commissioners is a reason for standing for election. He said: "To enable us to continue to enjoy such a quality of life and secure good employment will require commitment and experience both of which I have demonstrated as a commissioner."
On a national level his priorities include the economy, the customs agreement, health and social care and domestic rates. At constituency level his priorities include regeneration, public car parking and community facilities.
Jason Moorhouse – Challenger
Jason Moorhouse, a teacher at Castle Rushen High School, is standing as an independent candidate for Castletown.
He currently lives in Onchan but has spent the last 16 years teaching business, economics and geography in Castletown. If elected he says he will look to move to the ancient capital.
Jason says he is standing for election "to make a difference" and "to make effective use of my economic knowledge at this crucial time for the Manx nation".
On a national level his priorities include the control of national spending, unemployment and the protection of health and education services. At constituency level his priorities include boosting the "feel good factor" of Castletown and being visible and supportive to constituents.
Mahendra Patel – Challenger
Mahendra Patel is standing for election in Castletown as an independent candidate.
He is a pharmacist and runs the Castle Pharmacy in the town as well as being a member of the Isle of Man Pharmacy Contractors Association.
Mahendra has also been a commissioner in Castletown for eleven years and has served on various committees during that time.
Speaking about standing for election Mahendra said: "Please do vote as this is the only time your action will affect whom you have as your voice and representative at Tynwald Court. I will endeavour to do all within my ability to fulfil that commitment."
On a national level his priorities include the economy, efficiency, education, health and housing. At constituency level his priorities include improvement of the harbour area, parking and facilities for young people.
David Pownall – Challenger
David Pownall, a former airport policeman, is standing as an independent candidate in Castletown.
He is currently working as the secretary of the Old House of Keys in the town and says he wants to be elected because he feels the present administration is "causing an enormous amount of collateral damage to the Island".
On a national level David says he finds it "insulting" that the current government needs "to call the UK Government every time we lose focus". At constituency level his priorities include a lock gate for the harbour, a cinema and a sports arena.
Carol Quine – Challenger
Carol Quine is standing as an independent candidate for Castletown.
This is her second attempt at gaining the Castletown seat after standing unsuccessfully against Tony Brown in 1996.
Carol is a Castletown Commissioner and works as a medical staffing administrator at Noble's Hospital.
She says she wants to be elected to "continue to work for all in Castletown and do everything in my power to make the Island an even better place to live for our generation and safeguard our way of life for future generations".
On a national level her priorities include supporting tourism and economic development schemes, education and immigration. At constituency level her priorities include the Southern Area Plan, regeneration and promoting Castletown's historical heritage.
Richard Ronan – Challenger
Richard Ronan, a joining and building contractor, is standing as an independent candidate for Castletown.
He is a former Castletown Commissioner having resigned in February this year after seven years.
Richard says he wants to be elected to "contribute positively in creating a new direction for the Island and thus safeguard it for future generations".
On a national level his priorities include generating revenue to offset the VAT situation, reducing the cost of the public sector and the aging population. At constituency level his priorities include housing for young people, investment in heritage tourism for Castletown and encouraging employment to the town.
