THE Isle of Man’s marathon-running headteacher Rob Sellors has achieved another notable success by winning a prestigious race in the UK at the weekend.
The head of Cronk y Berry School took victory in the High Peak 40-mile race in Derbyshire on a course covering fells, trails, tracks and lanes not unlike those found in the Isle of Man.
“It’s exactly the sort of run which excites me,” he said today. “I managed to take the lead after reaching Rushup Edge and by the 20-mile mark in Castleton I gradually began to increase the lead and aimed to complete the race in under six hours.”
Rob found conditions difficult with slippery limestone making some sections hazardous but previous knowledge of the route was useful and he was “delighted” to finish in 5 hours 53 minutes - 15 minutes than when he ran the event last year.
He added, “This year was a special year, being the 25th anniversary of the event. I particularly enjoy this course, as it covers an area I used to visit regularly as a boy, living and then later working in the Stockport area prior to coming over to the Isle of Man.”
Having won the Isle of Man Marathon only four weeks earlier, Rob is now making a name for himself in the north west which has a large number of top quality fell and hill runners.
