THE House of Keys election is proving to be one of the highest profile elections for many decades with opinion polls, extensive media coverage, party newsletters, glossy manifestoes and huge numbers of posters and banners all over the Island.
Now the campaign is taking on another dimension with the arrival of a “Battle Bus” with candidates addressing the public all over the Island, using loud speakers in a style familiar in the UK but relatively new to the Isle of Man.
The bus is the idea of the Liberal Vannin Party which is fielding ten candidates in the House of Keys election next week. It has started circulating in the south of the Island this week and will move around each day up to next Thursday’s polling day.
The “Battle Bus” - referred to by LVP as its ‘Information Centre’ - is, in fact, a Winnebago motorhome owned by LVP South Douglas candidate Kate Beecroft and her husband Tony, the party’s media officer.
It has been decorated in the party’s distinctive yellow colours and will feature the candidates for each constituency as it moves around the Island, handing out literature and speaking to voters.
The bus is in Port Erin today (Wednesday) and moves to Onchan tomorrow and then continues its tour in subsequent days through Laxey, Ramsey and Andreas and then into Douglas for the final three days before the election.
