'Improved risk management needed for TT'

by isleofman.com 21st September 2011

A call is being made for improved safety measures for manual workers during the TT and Manx Grand Prix.

It follows the decision to suspend two members of staff as investigations continue after a biker died in an accident with a refuse collection vehicle at the end of TT fortnight this year.

Four years ago, an employee of the then Department of Transport was charged with manslaughter following a TT fatality, although the case was later dropped.

Secretary for the employees' side of the Whitley Council Eric Holmes says more needs to be done to ensure local workers are not put at risk (listen to audio file below):

The union Unite is calling for the two suspended workers to be reinstated.
