Four House of Keys requisition meetings scheduled for Douglas constituencies

by isleofman.com 19th September 2011

FOUR House of Keys requisition meetings will take place in the Douglas constituencies this week, starting tomorrow night.

Always the source of some heated debates and often humorous and entertaining, requisition meetings for the House of Keys are always well attended and voters are advised to get to the venues early.

The Mayor of Douglas, Councillor Ritchie McNicholl, has responded to requests from the public who are traditionally invited to request the meetings before any election.

He said,  “Douglas Borough Council is an active supporter of democratic government and I am pleased, therefore, to respond to the requisitions on its behalf.

“It is important electors be afforded the opportunity to raise issues and hear what candidates have to say. I hope the meetings will be well attended as I am confident they will prompt lively debate.”

The four requisition meetings will be held as follows:-

NORTH DOUGLAS: Willaston Methodist Hall – Tuesday, September 20.

WEST DOUGLAS: All Saints’ Church Hall – Wednesday, September 21.

EAST DOUGLAS: Manx Legion Club, Market Hill – Wednesday September 21.

SOUTH DOUGLAS: The Meadows Pavilion at Douglas Golf Club – Tuesday September 27.

Electors are invited to attend the meetings, which will start at 7.00 pm and end no later than 9.30 pm.

The official announcement of the meetings says, “The sessions will provide candidates the opportunity to address the audience, after which written questions will be taken and, if time permits, oral questions will follow.”
