Debate in Michael is 'somewhat leaden'

by isleofman.com 16th September 2011

No great controversies are being whipped up in the constituency of Michael, ahead of the general election.

That's the view of well known trade unionist Bernard Moffatt, a long-time resident of Michael village.

For many years Mr Moffatt was at the forefront of the Isle of Man's union scene, and a potent voice for worker's rights.

However, despite the current economic uncertainty, he says there are no 'storm clouds of discontent' in Michael, and while issues such as inflation could cause some people in the area real problems, he describes political debate in the run-up to September 29 as 'somewhat leaden' (listen to audio file below):

The three candidates for the single-seat constituency of Michael will be Beth Espey's guests in the constituency debate on Manx Radio, from just after 6pm today (Friday). The programme will be repeated on the station's FM frequencies, from 8.05am next Monday (September 19).

In alphabetical order, the candidates in Michael are Alfred Cannan, Paul Heavey and David Talbot.
