CALLS are being made for TT legend John McGuinness to receive an award in the next honours list.
The 'Morecambe Missile', with 17 victories at the TT, is the second most successful rider in the event's history and is the outright lap record holder.
He was also the first man to lap the course at 130mph.
John's local MP David Morris has tabled a Parliamentary motion on the issue.
It states: "That this House notes the contribution John McGuinness has made to motorcycle racing; further notes that he has received a number of local awards but never been honoured nationally; believes that Mr McGuinness should receive an award in the next honours list; and calls on the Main Honours Advisory Committee to recommend that he is suitably recognised in the next honours list."
A large number of John's fans are backing the proposals.
Only the late Joey Dunlop, with 26 victories, has more victories at the TT than John.
British 250cc champion in 1999, John has competed in the British Superstock 1000 championship, World Endurance championship and the Ulster Grand Prix this season in addition to the TT.
David Morris said: "I have received a large number of letters from constituents calling for John to be honoured.
"I am confident that the work he has done for the world of motorcycling and to put Morecambe on the map is worthy of an honour.
"He continues to race all over the world; to honour him would be a boost for the sport, for John himself and for the whole town."
John has dominated the superbike races at the TT for several years - since 2004 he has won every Formula One (later changed to the Superbike TT) and Senior races that he has finished.
2010 marked the first year in many years that he did not have one single podium.
He made up for it this year with wins in the TT Superbike and Senior races and second places in both the Superstock race and the Supersport race two event.
Numerous fans on the iomtt.com website are backing the campaign.
