Force nine conditions result in cancellation of daytime sailings

by isleofman.com 12th September 2011

SEVERE weather conditions in the Irish Sea have led to all daytime sailings being cancelled today (Monday).

Due to gale force nine conditions the decision has been taken to cancel sailings between the Isle of Man, Liverpool, Heysham and Ireland.

Conditions will be reviewed by 3.30pm this afternoon to determine if the Ben-my-Chree's 7.45pm and 2.15am sailings to Heysham will go ahead.

Severe weather conditions are also forecast for tomorrow and disruptions are expected.

A statement from the Steam Packet said: "Extra sailings were scheduled to provide additional capacity requested over the Commonwealth Youth Games period with excess capacity available.

"Passengers affected by any cancellations will be assisted with transfers to alternative sailings subject to availability.

"The passenger capacity of the Ben-my-Chree will be increased to her maximum and passengers wishing to transfer will be given priority over new bookings."

Athletes who have been taking part in the Commonwealth Youth Games are due to leave the Island tomorrow. Most of the teams who had been due to travel by sea have now made alternative arrangements to fly.

Passengers affected by the disruption should call the reservations team on 01624 01624 661661.
