Rocket section could be washed up on Manx beach

by isleofman.com 10th September 2011

People out walking along the Island's coast this weekend are being asked to keep their eyes open for part of a record breaking rocket.

A team of students, academics and amateur rocketeers from the Bolton Science and Technology Centre launched a device called 'Black Streak' from the Mull of Galloway last Thursday, in an attempt to break the height record for an amateur rocket launched from the United Kingdom.

They believe it reached a height of over 65,000 feet before returning to earth, but while they recovered both the lower motor stages, the top section, which contains many of the instruments, has gone missing.

'Black Streak' designer Robin Hague is confident it splashed down safely into the sea, and believes it could have been driven by currents over to the Isle of Man (listen to audio file below):

The missing rocket section has the word 'Black' along its side and the number to ring if you find it is 0775 330 7273.
