by isleofman.com 9th September 2011

ANGUS Gould from Australia took the gold medal in today's men's long jump event.

The young Australian had fantastic winning form - taking a number of personal bests along the way to secure one of the first medals of the games.

Elliot Safo took silver for England and Ifeanyichukwu Otuonye won bronze for the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The event took place at the NSC and crowds of spectators made their presence felt with plenty of encouragement for the competitors.

This was Australia's first gold medal of the games.
