Let's rejoice

by isleofman.com 9th September 2011

"Exultemus”, from the north-east of England, visited the Island to give a concert at All Saints Church, Lonan, on Thursday 25th August at 7.30 pm.

The Newcastle based choir have performed at the Celtic fringe in Cork, Port Madoc, Feshie Bridge, St Feock near Truro, Malestroit in Brittany, Grandtully near Aberfeldy, Killarney, Strada in Chianti, Orkney, Coniston and Brith Dir near Dolgellau.

This year, of course, they had to visit the Isle of Man, the last Celtic people they had still to visit in the British Isles, and they brought a mixed repertoire of music both sacred and secular, part songs, spirituals and motets.

They also brought with them “Opus 34”, a portable, transposable chamber organ commissioned by Cappella Novocastriensis and built by Mr Neil Richerby of Lammermuir Pipe Organs, Oldhamstocks near Haddington, Scotland.

As is the custom of the group, Exultemus donated all proceeds from the event to a charity agreed locally. Proceeds were split this year between All Saints Church and Crossroads Caring for Carers Isle of Man.

The money raised for Crossroads will go directly towards service provision for the islands' family and informal Carers and people with care needs.
