Local vet completes 400 mile walk through the French Alps

by isleofman.com 7th September 2011

A VET from the Isle of Man has completed a sponsored walk of more than 400 miles through the French Alps.

Edric Cross, a senior vet at Arg Beiyn Veterinary Practice, walked for 21 days along part of the GR5 European long distance footpath from Lake Geneva to Nice.

He walked alone and unsupported for the whole journey and had to carry all his provisions and camping equipment himself.

Edric managed an average of 20 miles a day – often climbing and then descending more than 1,000 metres a day.

Speaking about his adventure Edric said: "The weather could have been kinder and I lost 10kg in weight over the three weeks.

"I would like to thank all the generous people who sponsored me for this challenge. In total £800 has been raised which is to be split equally between Pets Aid League and Riding for the Disabled."
