HOMEOWNERS in the Isle of Man have the chance to speak to experts about gas safety in the home as part of an awareness initiative for Gas Safety Week.
The Gas Safe Register, an official register for gas engineers who are legally able to perform gas work, is bringing its public safety campaign to the Island on Wednesday.
Experts will host a question and answer style event at B&Q in Douglas where experts will be on hand to speak to people about how to spot the warning signs of dangerous gas appliances in the home.
Last year 10 people died and 330 were hospitalised due to gas related incidents in the United Kingdom.
Paul Johnston, chief executive of Gas Safe Register, said: "Gas Safety Week will act as a reminder to people to take care and be gas safe.
"Our Isle of Man Q&A event is an important way of reaching local people with potentially life saving advice. It is vital that people have annual checks on their gas appliances as badly fitted and poorly serviced appliances can cause dangerous leaks which can lead to gas fires and carbon monoxide poisoning."
Gas Safety Week runs from September 12 to September 18. The question and answer event will take place on Wednesday, September 14, between 10am and 2pm.
