HMV is issuing refunds to Isle of Man Bay Festival ticketholders as a "gesture of good faith" even though it has handed back ticket money to festival promoters, the company has said.
On Wednesday it was revealed that those people who had bought tickets for the cancelled festival through HMVtickets would get a full refund from HMV.
However it raised questions over whether the company was effectively paying out twice after it was reported, in May, that HMVtickets had already given the ticket money back to the promoters of the festival.
Gennaro Castaldo, spokesperson for HMVtickets, said: "We were very conscious that refunds to the cancelled Isle of Man Bay Festival had still not been paid out to tickets holders - who have been patient and understanding.
"So whilst it's still the case that we remain in active and positive discussions with the promoter -Mr Irving/IOM Bay Festival Limited - to secure the return of the receipts that we'd handed over, we felt that as a gesture of good faith towards those customers who bought their tickets from HMVtickets, and notwithstanding any other obligations, we should now look to settle refunds with those customers directly."
Paul Gelling, chief officer of the Isle of Man Office of Fair Trading, has the following advice for those customers who purchased tickets directly from Isle of Man Bay Festival Ltd.
He said: "I am aware that some people bought tickets via Isle of Man Bay Festival Limited's office in Peel or from the directors themselves and in this regard I have again written to Mr Irving to seek clarification of how these people will be refunded in order that we can provide further advice to these ticket holders."
HMVtickets say they expect to have the refund process completed by September 13. For more information on this click here.
