They say a "considerable amount of damage" has been caused to four bins and a car located in the Shoprite car park in Derby Road.

A paper recycling bin was deliberately set on fire sometime between Sunday evening and the early hours of Monday morning.

Fire crews attended the scene shortly after 1.30am on Monday to extinguish the fire which had completely destroyed the bin and damaged three others. A nearby vehicle was also caught by the flames and damaged.

Initial police enquiries have revealed that the bin had already been set alight at around 7pm on the Sunday evening but the fire had been extinguished by a passing member of the public.

A police spokesperson said: "Police are eager to speak with anyone who has any information that will assist bringing the person or persons responsible for this crime to justice."

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Darren Wylde at Peel Police Station on 01624 842208 or Police Headquarters on 01624 631212. Alternatively call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
