Ramsey lose opening clash

by isleofman.com 3rd September 2011

Ramsey lost 18-13 at home against Ruskin Park in their opening game of the season in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Two.

The Manx side took the lead with an early Fintan Cummins penalty.

The visitors levelled through Sean O’Hare and then took an 8-3 lead when centre Chris Halsall squeezed over out wide for a try.

Just before half-time Ramsey hit back with a try from Ali Trace and a Fintan Cummins conversion to gain a slender 10-8 lead.

Ramsey prop Andy Wilson was sin binned for a late tackle early in the second half and Ruskin Park took advantage of the extra man with Ben Mousely diving in for a try which gave them the lead.

O’Hare added the extras for a five point lead.

Cummins and O’Hare exchanged penalties in the closing stages, but Ramsey were unable to make any further inroads in miserable conditions.

Ruskin Park hooker Paul Ledbetter was sent off for punching in the late stages of the game and will now face an RFU disciplinary hearing.
